NTU Flagship Day 2 (25/5)

  • What did you do today?
    • We assembled a pop pop boat using easy to find and reused materials
    • We created the first draft of our presentation for our project and got feedback to help us improve on it. 
  • What did you learn today?
    • Discuss any learning points from today’s activities
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
    • In a pop pop boat, the boiler needs to be watertight. Using just your sight, sometimes you can see if the boiler has openings where water can leak through, sometimes you can’t and have to test it out. Like in any other project, you can see some flaws very easily and some appear only when you try to work on it.

NTU Flagship Day 1 (24/5)

  • What did you do today?
    • We learnt about the definition of Science and Technology
    • We improved and innovated on the Automatic Waste Sorting machine(AWS).
    • We explored how a bicycle can be used to charge a battery.
  • What did you learn today?
    • I learnt that there are always improvements or modifications that one can make to a project, even when he/she thinks that it cannot be improved anymore.
    • I learnt that the excess electrical energy that the dynamo produces cannot be used to charge the battery or the circuit may short and has to be grounded. The component used to manage this is called a voltage regulator.
  • How do you feel about today’s activities?
    • I am with people who have met and seen before but I have never really worked together with them. Now I have.

Pre-camp Reflection

             I find the idea of using bicycle pedal power to produce electricity interesting. Not only do you get exercise out of using the bicycle. It can provide power in your household. It is a really great way of reducing global warming. With more research on energy production techniques, bicycle powered appliances can become more viable and bicycle power may become a dominant power source. I learnt how the bicycle pedal power can be converted into electrical energy. People in developing countries can use this kind of product to produce their own power.
